In an exciting final the St John’s maintained their unbeaten record by beating namesakes and rivals St John’s Cathedral School 2-1. It was a great victory for the hardworking side, who recently returned from their annual sports tour to the West Midlands, which obviously served them in good stead going into the competition. Tom Vaughan, Head of PE at St John’s College said: ”The tour to Solihull, which included three friendly matches gave the players the extra lift needed to go out and win this competition. It was a great team-bonding experience and proved to be excellent preparation for this tournament.” Earlier on in the competition they had edged aside St Swithuns, Corpus Christi, St Anthony’s from Fareham and St John’s College ‘B’ side. Tom added: “The win comes at the end of a very successful term following victory in the independent schools 5-a-side tournament in September, again for the record breaking fourth year in a row. The team have also finished their independent schools season unbeaten, and remain in the Portsmouth schools’ cup.” Tony Shrubsall Head of the Junior School at St John’s College said: “St John’s College is very proud of the achievements of our junior soccer teams who have now completed an incredible four year run of success.
