Professor Dame Wendy Hall set to stimulate innovation and a Web-aware approach at Thomas Eggar LLP’s Digital Dinner, 11 June 2009

Professor Dame Wendy Hall, one of the world’s leading computer scientists and Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southampton, will be special guest and key note speaker at the South’s first Digital Dinner, hosted by solicitors Thomas Eggar LLP, in conjunction with Business Southampton. The event takes place on June 11 at Chilworth Manor and has at its heart a desire to impress upon commercial organisations the importance of recognising the potential of both the Internet and digital technology. Some of the themes that will be explored include the importance of the web in a world during and after a global economic crisis as well as looking at what businesses can do to successfully exploit the web. Dame Wendy is one of the first computer scientists to undertake serious research in multimedia and hypermedia, she has been at its forefront ever since. The influence of her work has been significant in many areas including digital libraries, the development of the Semantic Web, and the emerging research discipline of Web Science. She is a Founding Director, along with Professor Sir Tim Berners-Lee (inventor of the World Wide Web), Professor Nigel Shadbolt and Daniel J. Weitzner, of the Web Science Research Initiative. Richard Hastings, Commercial Technology Partner for solicitors Thomas Eggar LLP and former General Counsel for Yahoo! Europe will also be adding his experience and expertise to the evening and says, “Digital Dinner guests will gain an excellent insight into how they can realise the true potential of their online and digital offerings.” All of the businesses that have already confirmed their attendance have a keen strategic interest in using the Web to drive their company’s progress and we look forward to being able to contribute to that view.” For more information on the event, and to register your interest in attending please contact Katie Pow at katie.pow@thomaseggar.com.
