Metsä Group press release 4 December 2019

One of Finland’s biggest summer job recruitments is getting under way again. In the coming year, Metsä Group will provide a summer job for nearly 900 future professionals. The company is also offering almost 300 summer jobs outside Finland. Metsä Group invests in providing summer employees with guidance for their jobs and support for their learning, offers responsible and diverse tasks and pays fair wages for summer jobs, according to the demands of each task.

We have summer jobs for people with diverse backgrounds and skills. While most of our summer jobs involve production and maintenance, we also offer other roles in a variety of functions, such as tasks related to financial administration, logistics, research and development, payroll administration, sales, marketing, customer service and ICT. We offer challenging and versatile tasks, safe working conditions and good opportunities for the development of individual skills.

“A summer job at Metsä is an important start for the career of many young people. We invest in improving the employee experience by collecting feedback from summer employees every year. The feedback has been extremely positive, and our summer employees have given particular high marks for their nice co-workers and good working atmosphere as well as for the realisation of equality and fairness in work,” says Pertti Hietaniemi, Metsä Group’s Senior Vice President, HR.

“The forest industry is more topical than ever before. We’re working to mitigate climate change by providing carbon-storing and recyclable products made from a renewable raw material as an alternative to fossil-based materials. The large-scale investments we’re planning are a sign of our industry’s good outlook, which we think will appeal to young professionals looking for their own line of work,” adds Hietaniemi.
In the winter months, Metsä Group will take part in career and recruitment events across Finland. At these events, you can meet Metsä Group’s professionals and get tips on how to prepare for the application process. The schedule of the events is available at metsagroup.com/summerjobs.

This year, Metsä Group is again participating in the Responsible Summer Job campaign. The campaign challenges employers to offer more and better summer jobs to young people. As a socially responsible employer, we are committed to the campaign’s six principles of a good summer job. Further information on the campaign is available at kesaduuni.org

The application period for Metsä Group’s summer jobs is open from 4 December 2019 until 28 February 2020. This year, the centralised application process has been divided into three parts: wood supply and forest services, production and maintenance, and other operations, such as financial, sales, marketing and ICT tasks.
