Mullvad joins one of world's largest internet exchanges
16 October 2017 (Gothenburg, Sweden) – Mullvad VPN, in its continued efforts to improve its infrastructure, has, via 31173 Services AB, established a 10-Gbit connection to one of the world's biggest internet exchange points, located in Amsterdam. "We are excited about the ability to now peer with 800 other international networks at the most widely used exchange service," says Mullvad CEO Jan Jonsson.
Public peering allows for the parties within the exchange to send their traffic directly to one another rather than taking a longer route over the public Internet. Peering also improves performance, increases redundancy, and decreases latency. "Joining this kind of exchange points is a smart investment for Mullvad and its infrastructure," says Nemo Ekström, CEO of 31173 Services, the data center specialist that assisted in the upgrade.
Mullvad has also doubled its server capacity in both Stockholm and Amsterdam. The VPN service now runs 143 servers in 26 countries worldwide.
