The next original production from Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group), the Nordic region’s leading streaming company, is the Swedish drama series ‘A Class Apart’, which explores a hidden world of privilege, power and deadly secrets at an exclusive boarding school. The eight-part show uses the framework of a compelling mystery to examine social structures and will premiere exclusively on NENT Group’s Viaplay streaming service.

When a student at the famous boarding school Tuna Kvarn is found dead, investigators are met with a wall of silence. Suspicions soon turn to pupils from a disadvantaged neighbouring state school – until a mobile film that reveals Tuna Kvarn’s humiliating initiation rituals appears on social media and triggers dramatic consequences.

Filippa Wallestam, NENT Group Chief Content Officer: “As the European streaming champion, we want our storytelling to touch every part of society. Boarding schools are often worlds within a world and remain one of our most enigmatic institutions. Yet as viewers of Viaplay’s latest original series will discover, they are also complex spaces where young people’s hopes, dreams and tensions play out like anywhere else – an ideal setting for compelling and sometimes unsettling drama.”

‘A Class Apart’ (Swedish title: ‘Zebrarummet’) stars Aliette Opheim (‘Thicker Than Water’), Henrik Schyffert (NENT Group’s ‘Love Me’) and Valter Skarsgård (NENT Group’s ‘Black Lake’), together with Alva Bratt, Maxwell Vaz, Edvin Endre, Tiam Miladi, Wilma Lidén, Amanda Lindh, Adja Krook and Aviva Wrede.

Valter Skarsgård: “This series intrigued me because it gave me the chance to play a character who is as different from me as it gets, in terms of both personality and lifestyle. At the same time, the show portrays an interesting world in a smart way. This is more than a teenage drama; we’re asking broader social questions.”

The series is based on an idea by Henrik Schyffert and Gustaf Skördeman, and is written by Michaela Hamilton, Gustaf Skördeman, Erik Eger, Anna Platt and Fredrik Agetoft, with Andrea Östlund, Erik Eger and David Berron sharing directing duties.

‘A Class Apart’ is co-produced by Jarowskij and Brommamamma in partnership with Film i Väst.
