In 2013, TAP carried 10,703,000 passengers in its system-wide network, that is to say some 517,000 passengers above same period (JAN – DEC) in previous year, which translated into a 5 per cent increase year-on-year.

Such positive traffic results are mainly due to the improvement in the average load-factor, which went up to 79.4 per cent posted last year, 2.6 p.p. better than the 76.8 per cent L/F in 2012.

For that matter, it is worthy of mention the fact that TAP achieved such an increase despite having kept the same number of aircraft in fleet in operation as well as the same capacity offered (with no ASK growth).

When analysing the whole year’s traffic, the company posted an 8.3 per cent growth in passenger numbers in December alone, with domestic flights to Madeira and the Azores ( 12.2 per cent) along with those to Africa ( 13.5 per cent) ranking as two of the top sectors of the network with best performance, amongst others.

Considering the aggregate figures January – December 2013, the European network was key to the overall increase of the year, with some 443,000 passengers more ( 7.2 per cent) carried, along with Africa that grew 7.5 per cent and Venezuela (Central America) with 12.6 per cent more.
