A college-bound singer who is blind and was born with cerebral palsy recently received quite as amazing a graduation gift as one can hope for: an open letter of congratulations from Beyoncé.

Timmy Kelly first met the world-famous pop star in 2007 when he was only 13-years-old. Inspired by his story, and his desire to pursue music, Beyoncé remained close with Timmy over the years. Upon his recent graduation from high school and impending enrollment in college this fall, she posted an open letter on her website title “TIMMY KELLY,” MTV reported.

The letter read:

“The first time I met Timmy Kelly was in 2007, backstage at The Grammys. He was only 13 and he touched my heart with his voice and his love of music and life.

He is 18 now and he’s just graduated high school – I’m so proud of him! Timmy was born blind, and with cerebral palsy.

But this never slowed him down – he has proven to everyone, that anything is possible if you believe in yourself and work hard.

In Philadelphia, he’s knows as the good luck charm to the Eagles and whenever he sings the national anthem before a game they always win. His strength and determination is an inspiration.

Timmy was just accepted to the Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance.

Congratulations Timmy!

Love,

B”

Props to Timmy for overcoming his birth injury and pursuing his dream, and also to Beyoncé for using her fame to shine a light on a cerebral palsy success story we can all learn from.
