NH Governor Rejects Medical Malpractice Bill

New Hampshire Governor John Lynch rejected a medical malpractice reform bill that proposed a new way to resolve medical malpractice claims, saying it needs to be revised.

The bill would have established a voluntary program where victims of medical negligence could get compensated for lost wages and medical expenses if they agree not to file a lawsuit, according to the Associated Press (AP). The so-called “early offer” would not compensate victims for pain, lost earning capacity, suffering, and other damages.

Lynch vetoed the bill because he said it did not fairly balance the interests of the public with the interests of medical providers, according to the AP. He specifically opposed the part of the bill that required patients to make their decision for going through with the process within five days of meeting with an advisor.
