First ground broken for Victoria Park’s 16 new flats in Hässleholmen, Borås

Construction has begun of 16 rental flats in the Hässleholmen district of Borås, Sweden. The project involves the densification of an existing property with occupancy scheduled to begin in spring 2020.

The first ground was broken by Mayor of the City of Borås Ulf Olsson, Chairman of the Urban Planning Committee Morgan Hjalmarsson and Victoria Park’s Region Manager Maria Widenstedt. Many of Victoria Park’s customers, representatives from the City of Borås and partners were present to celebrate the start of construction.

“Borås is expanding rapidly and a close collaboration between the City of Borås and private property companies is therefore positive and important, to ensure that residential construction can keep pace with demographic trends,” says Ulf Olsson, Mayor of the City of Borås.

Victoria Park has owned the property on Solvarvsgatan in Hässleholmen, which currently consists of 350 flats, since March 2016. The property included a development right for a site on which an older building previously stood. Victoria Park is now utilising this development right as a means of densifying the area with an additional 16 rental flats with occupancy set to begin in spring 2020. Derome Husproduktion is the turnkey contractor for the project.

“The collaboration with Victoria Park is working very well. It always feels particularly good to build rental units like these in Hässleholmen as we are helping to solve the housing shortage, which is one of our greatest societal challenges. The use of locally produced and climate-smart buildings in wood is also extremely positive from a sustainability perspective,” says Johan Axelsson, CEO of Derome Husproduktion.

“We are delighted to strengthen our sustainable property management activities here in Borås with the addition of 16 new flats. Furthermore, we have transformed under-utilised premises into 13 new ground-floor flats with outdoor areas. By renovating the properties, both indoors and outdoors, and building more housing, we are making our residential areas even more pleasant and attractive,” says Maria Widenstedt, Region Manager of Victoria Park AB.
