The British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) has announced that David Graham, Managing Director of Islington-based audio-visual and home automation specialists firm Grahams Hi-Fi, will be the new Industry Partner Director on the BIID Council.

David brings a wealth of relevant experience to his role representing Industry Partner members on Council. This includes many years working with his industry’s own membership organisation, the Custom and Electronics Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) as a volunteer. David has served as a past chairman for CEDIA and has also acted as the trade body’s Outreach Chair, which involves forging direct links and encouraging dialogue with interior designers, architects and other specifiers.

The BIID Council has voted to co-opt David onto Council, replacing Neil Stevenson owner of N.E.J Stevenson Ltd as Industry Partner Director.

“I am honoured to serve on the BIID Council as Industry Partner Director,” says David. “I am seeking to help grow the BIID membership, extend its CPD offering and, in particular, help Industry Partners enjoy maximum benefit from their membership. I have a very good understanding of how membership organisations and volunteer ‘bodies’ work which will help inform my work on Council and ensure that all members achieve a return on their membership investment, whether this is purely financial or in terms of time and energy.”

As Industry Partner Director, David will serve as the voice for industry partner members, heading up the BIID’s Industry Partner committee.

“It is a great privilege to have David joining the BIID council,” says Sue Timney, BIID President. “He has a strong background, invaluable experience on other trade bodies and an understanding and appreciation of the interior design sector which will, I’m sure, make him a brilliant Industry Partner Director.”

David started working at Grahams Hi-Fi part-time at the age of eight! He studied computing and joined the staff of Grahams full-time in 1980, working initially in sales and then in the engineering and installation department. He took on the role of Sales Director in 1992 and was responsible for the company's diversification into residential custom installation projects, before becoming Managing Director.

About the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID)

Established in 1966, the BIID is the professional Institute for interior designers in theUK.

The BIID’s growing national and international membership represents both the commercial and residential sectors, from heritage to cutting edge. In addition to rigorous entry requirements that assess training, experience and professionalism, the Institute requires members to continue their professional development throughout their career, ensuring their continued expertise in design process, practice and regulatory matters.

The BIID is the only professional organisation for interior designers which has been granted the prestigious and rare accolade of Institute status by the Minister of State as the pre-eminent body in its field. The Institute’s mission is to encourage and support creativity and competence in the field of interior design through facilitating best practice, practical professional support, development opportunities and education.

On the national stage, the BIID is a full member of the Construction Industry Council and, as a result, is now part of Government consultations to advise on new policy and legislation. Internationally, the BIID is represented on the board of the International Federation of Interior Architects and Designers; the global voice and authority for professional interior architects and designers.
