John Evans Interior Architecture and Design is proud to announce that its design scheme for the new Bensons for Beds concept store in Rotherham has been shortlisted for the Northern Design Awards 2012.

By transforming the way the retailers’ beds are displayed and boosting turnover in the process, this significant project will contest the ‘Best Retail Display’ category, with the winner to be revealed at a gala ceremony on Friday 30 November 2012, at Manchester Central.

John Evans Interior Architecture & Design worked closely with Bensons for Beds and integrated communications agency, Public, on this project.  The John Evans team focused on the concept store’s interior to reflect the high quality of beds and bedroom furniture within the store.

“The brief was to design a concept store that was unique and completely different from the look and feel of the traditional retailer,” says John Evans, Director at the practice. “By displaying a great value product in a high quality interior ensures it appears to be even better value to the customer. We abandoned the stereotypical bright, industrial lighting and regimented rows of beds to create an inspirational, less intimidating store that was in tune with the customer.”

Alan Williams, Managing Director of Bensons for Beds says, “We are delighted with the new stores and think they look terrific. Our aim is to give our shoppers a better experience and make sure we find them the right bed. The new stores have been designed to give a more pleasurable shopping experience and they are already delivering impressive results. So with the backing of Steinhoff, it is our intention to roll these out across our estate.”

The Northern Design Awards bring together designers, retailers and property developers in a celebration of Northern design and style. Judges for 2012 include Sir Terence Conran; renowned designer, Linda Barker; famous interior designer, Wayne Hemmingway; fashion designer, Diarmuid Gavin; garden designer, Jan Constantine; textile designer, Suzanne Imre; Editor at Living Etc, Nick Munro; product designer, George Clarke; architect, writer, lecturer and successful property TV presenters and Geoff Also; RIBA’s NW Regional Treasurer.
