NEW YORK, NY: October 18—The Supreme Court may rule next spring on the constitutionality of the Obama Administration’s Health Care Act, often referred to by critics as “Obamacare.” Rising health insurance premiums make it harder for businesses to hire new employees. Baby boomers may have unrealistic expectations about their health in old age and the cost of long-term health care. The pressure to close budget deficits could lead to cuts in Medicaid and Medicare funding.

Everywhere you look, the health care debate is making headlines and presenting problems that can’t be solved in soundbites or through partisan politics. How can we implement a rational, real-world approach to improving health care? What do professionals working in the field have to say about the future of the health care industry and its relationship to the government? Lesley Stahl, a 60 Minutes host and one of the country’s most esteemed journalists, talks with four distinguished experts at 92nd Street Y, who address questions like:

  • How healthy are Medicaid and Medicare? Find out from Donald Berwick, the Chief Administrator of the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services and an Obama appointee.

  • Can a coalition of regional groups address problems with health care? Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill, the co-founder of the Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative and a national advocate for patient safety and quality health care, offers insight.

  • What can business leaders and philanthropists bring to the national discussion? Kenneth G. Langone, the co-founder of Home Depot, CEO of Invemed Associates LLC and a former director of the New York Stock Exchange is a longtime contributor to charities that fund medical research; he is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the NYU Langone Medical Center. He brings to the table his business acumen and years of experience supporting high quality medical work.

  • How does health care reform affect hospitals, doctors, patients and research? Dr. Robert I. Grossman is a pioneer in research on multiple sclerosis and neuroradiology. He is the dean and CEO of the NYU Langone Medical Center, which includes Tisch Hospital, the Hospital for Joint Disease, Rusk Institute for Rehabilitation and the NYU School of Medicine. As a leading doctor on the front lines, he illuminates the real-life dramas of health care.
