Help Children’s Charity Brainwave work some magic now and in 2010

Brainwave is appealing to everyone this Christmas to save their stamps (UK and foreign), spare coins, postcards and cigarette cards and bring or send them to one of three of its national Centres where the charity will turn them into “gold”! Gold that is for the hundreds of families across the country that benefit from the home based therapy programmes specially devised for children with cerebral palsy and other conditions such as development delay. Money raised from the collections will help to fund the work which Brainwave does with families and their children who can make amazing progress as a result of Brainwave’s unique approach and the efforts that the families put in when carrying out the Brainwave programmes. Gerry Gould, South East Community Manager for the Charity, said, “Brainwave is not Government funded and so we have to look to other sources to fund the work we do. Everyone can help by collecting the stamps off their Christmas cards, and rummaging in the loft or attic for those forgotten stamp or coin collections. We also welcome old postcards and cigarette cards. Please send them to one of our three therapy Centres or drop them in to a Centre or one of our charity shops in the South West. If everyone reading this asked all their friends, family and work colleagues to do the same it would really make a difference.” Contacts and Addresses for the three Brainwave Centres: Gerry Gould, The Brainwave Centre, Beechen House, Rear of 16 Newland Street, Witham, Essex T/:01258 561784; M/07725956014 or E/:gerrygould@brainwave.org.uk The Brainwave Centre, Huntworth Gate, Bridgwater, Somerset TA6 6LQ T/: 01278 429089 Jackie Addison, Brainwave North-West, Unit 602. Brainwave’s team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists development therapists and teachers seek to transform the lives of children with disabilities. By working with parents, giving them relevant therapy equipment and teaching them correct handling skills, they are empowered to actively participate in their child’s development. 2. Families are invited to the Centre for a two day Initial Assessment where the child is assessed and a programme designed for the child. On the second day the family are shown how to undertake the exercises, which they then carry out at home, retuning to the Centre every 4-6 months when the exercises are adjusted. 3. Brainwave currently has 470 families on Programme and the enquiries are growing at 30%. 4. See the charity’s video at http://uk.youtube.com/BrainwaveCentre . 5. Brainwave uses mainstream neuroplasticity techniques in its programmes. Its Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists are NHS trained.
