Irish government backs effective magnetic filtration savings

Ireland’s national energy authority, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), is the first government body to recognise the proven energy saving performance of ADEY Professional Heating Solutions’ award winning MagnaClean technology.

The UK and Ireland market leading filter has been awarded ‘energy savings credits’ by the SEAI as part of its Better Energy Scheme. It is the first time magnetic filtration has been recognised in this way by any government office.

The Better Energy Homes and Better Energy Workplaces scheme was launched in 2011 with the aim of realising 8,000GWh of energy savings and to deliver energy efficiency upgrades to one million residential, public and commercial buildings by 2020.

As part of the strategy, Ireland’s major energy providers including Bord Gais, Electric Ireland and Airtricity have been set targets for helping customers to reduce their energy consumption, year on year. To achieve this, the SEAI is rigorously assessing the energy saving potential of products and technologies from insulation to glazing and heating, allocating ‘energy credits’ based on the efficiency gains each energy saving measure can deliver.

“This is a major landmark in the recognition of magnetic filtration as an energy saving and carbon reducing technology, and as the pioneers of magnetic filtration, ADEY is hugely proud that our original, market leading MagnaClean filter has been recognised in this way. It would be fantastic to see this support replicated by UK government.” says Kelvin Stevens, ADEY’s Managing Director.

“The SEAI has set a very high benchmark for the awarding of energy credits, requiring detailed evidence, research and ‘real life’ data that proves energy savings can be made, not just as a single hit, but consistently, year after year,” explains Norman McNaught, spokesman for ADEY’s operation in Ireland. “Not all magnetic filters available can offer the same system protection or gains in efficiency, and that’s reflected in the fact that ADEY’s MagnaClean filter is the only filter on the market to be awarded energy saving credits by the SEAI.”

As a result of adopting effective magnetic filtration, a typical three-bedroom household could also reduce carbon emissions up to 250kg annually and cut its heating energy consumption by 6% a year. It could also help to extend the operational life of a boiler, potentially way beyond the industry accepted life span of 12-15 years.
