Stay aligned to truly benefit from tyre labelling

Since 1st November, drivers have been able to make a much better informed choice when replacing their tyres with the introduction of new tyre labelling regulations. The labels which can now be seen on all new car tyres, rate their performance on three key criteria; wet braking performance, external noise and fuel efficiency.

However, unless drivers have their wheel alignment checked at the same time as replacing their tyres, any carefully selected performance benefits may be undermined by misalignment. Indeed, this can lead to greater noise, reduced vehicle safety and higher fuel consumption – all of the things intended to be tackled by the new labels.

“The new tyre labels are a fantastic development and will help drivers select tyres which are most appropriate for their driving style or motoring requirements,” explains Kathryn Beaurain from the alignment advice portal www.alignmycar.co.uk. “However, the performance attributes of the tyres is only translated into real-life performance if the car’s wheels are properly aligned. So, to ensure you get your intended fuel savings or maximum tyre safety, it’s important to not only have your wheels aligned when changing tyres, but also to have it regularly checked as well.”

Thankfully, having your alignment checked has never been easier. The website alignmycar.co.uk has recently introduced a new centre locator and mapping system allowing you to easily find the location of your nearest Hunter equipped workshop. And what’s more, many of the centres listed are equipped with the very latest Hunter alignment systems meaning that not only will drivers benefit from a fast and accurate diagnosis of their alignment, but they will also receive a printout to show exactly how misaligned their vehicle is and what corrective action is required.

“By having your wheels properly aligned, not only will you ensure that your tyres perform as they have been designed, but they will also last much longer,” adds Beaurain. “Misalignment can seriously reduce the life of your tyres as they wear much faster or unevenly, so the investment in an alignment check can also pay dividends in helping to reduce your overall cost of motoring.”
