JUSSI TUULENSUU APPOINTED SENIOR EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF AAMULEHTI

Acting Senior Editor-in-Chief Jussi Tuulensuu, 40, has been appointed Senior Editor-in-Chief of Finnish daily newspaper Aamulehti from 16 February 2018. He has held the post of Editor-in-Chief at Aamulehti since the beginning of September 2015 and has served as acting Senior Editor-in-Chief since October 2017.

Tuulensuu’s previous experience includes working for Sanoma Media Finland’s periodicals unit and Alma Media’s Kauppalehti Optio in a variety of design-related leadership and development roles. His credentials also include working with a number of media outlets to update their content and visual design in a consultant capacity, and providing professional training to journalists and senior editorial staff.

“Senior Editor-in-Chief Tuulensuu has a clear vision and experience of the steps required to develop regional media. We are confident that, under his management, the Aamulehti brand will continue to strengthen in all distribution channels—including in print,” says Senior Vice President Kari Juutilainen.

Aamulehti is seeing strong growth online. Over a third of Finnish internet users read the online edition of Aamulehti at least once a month. In the Tampere market area, the Aamulehti product family and Alma Media’s network reach 95 per cent of the population every week. Last autumn, Aamulehti was recognised as the best designed newspaper in the Nordic countries, the first in Finland.

“Paid journalistic content has a bright future, also online. At Aamulehti, this is demonstrated by the number of users of the paid application, over 40,000. Our print edition is among the most highly awarded in the Nordic countries. We are successful at this because our work community includes some of the top talent in Finland in all roles as well as a spirit of working together. We will continue our active approach and seek to serve and bring together individuals and communities in Tampere and Pirkanmaa,” says Jussi Tuulensuu.

Tuulensuu studied communications, mathematics and statistics at the University of Tampere.

Aamulehti is part of the Alma Media Group’s Alma Regions business unit, which publishes regional, local and town papers. Its best-known brands in addition to Aamulehti are Satakunnan Kansa and Lapin Kansa. The Regions unit also includes the printing press and distribution house Alma Manu Oy.
