LOS ANGELES, CA Feb. 11, 2015 - Society for Brain Mapping and therapeutics (SBMT) is a spinoff of unique collaborations between the rocket and brain scientists, which was started near 14 years ago. Since then the organization has held 12 annual world Congress Conventions in the US, France, Australia and Canada.

This year the organization is bringing together world leading scientists, engineers, physicists, physicians and surgeons in Los Angeles Convention Center from Friday March 6th to Sunday March 8th in order to translate, integrate, commercialize advance technologies across multiple disciplines into clinical neuroscience in general but psychiatry in particular.

“Until now, standard diagnoses in psychiatry are made primarily through talking to patients and looking at symptom clusters without any biological information. Psychiatry is the only medical specialty that virtually never looks at the organ it treats.  This world congress is a major step forward in breaking the boundaries of science and technology in mental disorders,” said Daniel Amen, MD, founder of Amen Clinics. This convention is crucial not only because it could help with brain discovery but will also assist with prevention, diagnosis and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders such as PTSD, brain trauma, autism, Alzheimer's disease, brain cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, spinal disorders and peripheral nerve injuries.

The 12th Annual World Brain Mapping and Therapeutics convention are anticipating over 800 attendees, and will have 550 speakers, 110+ scientific sessions and 10 keynote speakers including Congressman Chaka Fattah and Dr. Jakob Van Zyl, associate director of Project Formulation and Strategy at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

There are 3 sessions of Brain Mapping in Psychiatry, co-chaired by Daniel Amen, MD.  The sessions will cover chronic pain, dementia, ADHD, autism, posttraumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, addictions, Lyme disease, brain imaging in a legal setting, and neuroimaging and spirituality.

“I am truly honored to be part of the such eclectic group of pioneers in the field; we have been preparing for this convention for 2 years, which could have a significant impact on the way brain diseases are diagnosed and treated in the near future,” Dr. Amen.

This is the largest world congress for Brain Mapping ever to have been organized, which covers far advance technologies from imaging to genomic, proteomic, nanoneuroscience and supercomputing, as well as material and aeronautic space engineering applications in medicine.

“I believe the field of brain mapping, which covers all forms of imaging, has the potential to revolutionize the field of Psychiatry and this is why we have been involved in this program and continue to be engaged with SBMT members who are pioneers in the field,” said Dr. Amen.
