Cutting-Edge Advances in Optical Diagnostics and Therapeutics Uncovered

March 21, 2013, Wausau, WI – Laser 2013 will offer an Experimental and Translational Research Session, Friday, April 5, as part of the 33rd Annual Conference of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, Inc. (ASLMS), April 3-7, 2013, Boston, MA.

The session will promote an understanding of basic processes of light interaction with tissue and cells, design of light-based diagnostic and therapeutic devices and techniques, and early translation of this knowledge to clinical applications.

Tianyi Wang, Ph.D., Co-Director, commented, “This session will provide attendees with knowledge of cutting-edge advances in optical diagnostics and therapeutics, and their early translation to the clinical management of patients. Novel results are presented that will impact the development of new and more efficacious, light-based diagnostic and therapeutic devices and applications. Characterization of light sources and safety issues will also be considered.” Dr. Wang is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Texas at Austin and a member of the ASLMS Research and Development Committee.

“Hot Topics” include new applications of fractional ablative technology, novel multi-model modalities for cancer diagnosis and treatment, and novel Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) techniques and applications.

James W. Tunnell, Ph.D. will serve as Co-Director. Dr. Tunnell is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He also chairs the Research and Development Committee and serves as a Basic Science Representative on the Board of Directors for ASLMS.

Scientists, engineers, medical practitioners as well as other health care professionals involved in biomedical applications of lasers are invited to attend.

Conference registration is $490 for members or applicants, $525 for active members of the U.S. military and $750 for non-members. Students and residents are admitted free of charge.
