Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Sweden Selects Anaplan to Drive Growth in the Nordic Region

Low TCO, rapid deployment and flexibility of the Anaplan platform enable one of Sweden’s leading CPG providers to replace a spreadsheet-based process and maximize sales, operational data

Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Sweden, a leading consumer goods business serving the Nordic regions, has selected Anaplan for execution of strategic initiatives and financial planning and analysis. Orkla Confectionery & Snacks, which recently consolidated its existing companies in an effort to strengthen its competitiveness and create new opportunities for growth in the Nordic region, is replacing a spreadsheet-based process and using Anaplan as an overlay to two existing ERP systems.

In January 2014, OLW and Göteborgs Kex were officially merged to form Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Sweden, and Jonas Nordquist was named CEO.

“When the merge happened, one of our biggest challenges was to determine how we would get the most out of our data,” said Nordquist. “We quickly realized that we needed to rapidly join the ERP systems, and Anaplan was the clear choice.”

Nordquist and the management team at Orkla are implementing Anaplan to drive strategic initiatives including their FP&A strategy and to help them to gather information from two ERP systems (SAP and M3) to get a consolidated view of their financial results and do forecasting down to product level.

“The CPG and grocery industry is becoming more and more information driven, in terms of how we create value and in terms of the margins. We need to know more about the category, about what our customers are saying, and about what the consumers need,” said Nordquist. “The simplicity of Anaplan’s technology gives us real ownership of the solution and gets people to work quickly. With Anaplan, we can actually take over, own the solution, and develop on it. This is not usual. Ordinary changes can be complicated with other solutions, requiring outside consultants and heavy reliance on IT. This is not so with Anaplan.”

Anaplan global integration partner, Accenture, led the implementation of Anaplan for Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Sweden.

“The combination of the Anaplan platform and the deep capabilities of Accenture’s Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) consulting team have given Orkla the right tools for success and enabling growth in the Nordic region,” said Robert Bergstrom, Managing Director – Accenture Strategy, EPM.

Anaplan’s cloud-based platform is built on the patented, in-memory HyperBlock™ data engine delivering unparalleled immediacy, flexibility and scale. Anaplan unifies data from across the organization in a secure cloud/SaaS platform and interconnects plans to deliver unprecedented trust and visibility into the planning process.

“Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Sweden now represents two of the most well-known brands in Sweden, and their choice of Anaplan serves as confirmation of their shift toward alignment and engagement across the organization,” said Thomas Anderberg, Managing Director, Anaplan Nordic. “The Anaplan platform gives Orkla’s management team the flexibility and collaboration they need to produce reports in real time, stay competitive, and continue meeting the goals of their performance improvement plan.”
