The four lawyers from Anthony Collins Solicitors’ FourCubed fundraising team successfully completed their first half marathon as part of their ambitious 12 month fundraising challenge for disability charity, Whizz-Kidz at Birmingham’s recent EDF Half Marathon. The Birmingham Half Marathon was the first of 12 runs that the FourCubed team will take part in over the next 12 months with the aim to raise as much money as possible for Whizz-Kidz. Rankeshwar Batta, partner at Anthony Collins Solicitors said: “It was great to start our challenge close to home in Birmingham. The first event was such a landmark occasion for us, that finishing wasn’t the end, but just the beginning. We’ve got five weeks to go until our next half marathon so there’s no rest for the team! “Whizz-Kidz improves the lives of so many children and young people in the UK, which made choosing to support the charity an easy decision for the team as it closely aligns with the team’s personal beliefs, as well as Anthony Collins’ values and ethos. Through our work we come across many people whose lives are devastated by illness or injury and some of our most thought provoking clients from these backgrounds are children.” Anthony Collins launched their ambitious fundraising challenge from the company’s city centre roof top last week with the release of 64 (four cubed) balloons released by 13 year old Whizz-Kidz local Ambassador, Nathan Giles. As well as Whizz-Kidz, the event was attended by representatives from other charities that teams within Anthony Collins have chosen to support. Jessica Leigh, Whizz-Kidz Events Fundraiser, said: “The FourCubed challengers have kick-started their unique fundraising mission with a great event – and we’ll be supporting them every step (tread, walk and run) of the way. A huge thank you for getting behind Whizz-Kidz; for every pounding race, the money they raise will help young disabled people leap into independence through vital mobility equipment. Keep it up!” Since 1990 Whizz-Kidz has changed the lives of over 11,000 disabled children and young people in the UK. Whizz-Kidz is more than just about providing mobility equipment; it provides wheel chair skills, training, advice and information and opportunities to meet and have fun at local clubs, helping children and young people gain vital skills for life. The inspiration for FourCubed came about when Rankeshwar Batta turned 40 this year and wanted to make an extra special contribution to fundraising with the objective of raising as much money as possible over a 12 month period. He is joined by three fellow Anthony Collins’ solicitors: David Evison, Kate Jackson and Amy O’Connor who have all committed to 12 runs over the course of the next 12 months - 4 marathons, 4 half marathons and 4 10km runs - FourCubed - 4x4x4. Adds Rankeshwar : “The fundraising idea within Anthony Collins has gained momentum with each department within the firm raising as much money as possible for a charity of their choice. Each team has fundraising targets for their chosen charities with an active campaign for fundraising over the next 12 months which is absolutely fantastic.” The other charities include: Rathbone, Cord, MLST, Cerebra, The Children’s Society, Cystic Fibrosis, SENSE, The Lighthouse Group and YMCA. The FourCubed team will be running in the Clowne Half Marathon on 28th November and will use the Anthony Collins Solicitors website and social media including Facebook and Twitter to update on the team’s progress.
