Broadcaster Kanal 5 and associated company SBS Radio have chosen Qbrick as the Web TV supplier for popular Kanal 5 Play and SBS Radio’s online and mobile streaming distribution. Qbrick’s customers now include most of the major media houses in the Nordic region who are at the forefront of global development of online video.

Kanal 5 is one of Sweden’s largest TV channels, with a clear emphasis on broadcasting entertainment in the form of successful foreign series and popular Swedish productions. The popular Kanal 5 Play is the channel’s successful Web TV venture. Qbrick is now taking over as technology provider and at the same time is signing a new agreement with SBS Radio and its stations, including Mix Megapol, The Voice and Rockklassiker.

“Kanal 5 Play is growing very rapidly and during this expansive phase it is important to have access to stable and secure distribution that can cope with our dramatically increasing volume of traffic. We are looking forward to further developing our viewer offering together with Qbrick,” says Daniel Cedercrona, Business Area Manager for Digital Media at Kanal 5.

"SBS Radio has worked successfully with Qbrick for 3 years now, and Qbrick was our first choice when looking at how we could further develop our services," says Simon Gooch, Head of New Media at SBS Radio. "Mobile streaming is an increasingly important element of our activities and interest in listening to our content on demand has also increased sharply during 2010.  With Qbrick’s new distribution solutions for radio we will reach more listeners, with even better sound quality."

“Kanal 5 will become a large and important customer for us. We have had the honour of working with SBS Radio for many years and naturally we value their continued confidence in us. Both companies are part of a group with excellent and large-scale media channels that have content, viewer traffic, visions and they are focusing strongly on Web TV,” says Eric Matsgård CEO of Qbrick. “We are looking forward to being involved as Kanal 5 focuses on becoming Sweden’s most popular Play channel as well as when SBS Radio further develops its online and mobile live broadcasts, on-demand audio content and also video solutions.”

Over the course of 11 years, Qbrick has built what is now the Nordic region’s largest and best performing streaming media platform for Web TV and Mobile TV solutions. The fact that Kanal 5 and SBS Radio are choosing Qbrick is further proof that technical quality and local presence are crucial in order for Web TV to function and provide satisfied viewers.
