Armstrong Cabinets Featured in Green Modular Home from New World Home currently on target for LEED® Platinum Certification

Armstrong Cabinets is featured in Country Living's 2010 House of the Year building project, “Home Green Home”. The house, developed by New World Home and designed by Country Living editors, is part of the historically-inspired Country Living Collection of modular homes, which offer attainable green living coupled with classic country style.  Home Green Home reflects the magazine's refined, unfussy point of view and features environmentally responsible products in every room.  The home is featured in the November 2010 issue of Country Living magazine.

For the kitchen, Country Living editors selected Armstrong’s Town&Country™ maple door style, a casually elegant look with straight, vertical grooved panels. The editors paired the door with the new eco-friendly Origins™ cabinet that utilizes a urea-formaldehyde free, soy-based adhesive called PureBond®. The hardwood plywood is derived responsibly from managed forests, and then enhanced with a proprietary resin, giving it particularly strong bonding and water-resistance qualities.

Country Living has always been devoted to the health of our planet and the preservation of the American countryside—we were 'green' long before it became a popular buzzword,” said Sarah Gray Miller, editor-in-chief. “So our 2010 House of the Year project, called 'Home Green Home', is especially exciting. The cottage really brought the concept of eco-friendly style to life for our readers—with ideas that are not only environmentally responsible, but also beautiful and affordable.”

The house is a 1,600-square-foot 'Hudson' cottage, part of New World Home's Country Living Collection, a portfolio of five individual home designs that range from 1,100 to 2,300 square feet with an average price of $175-$225 per square foot.  With two bedrooms and two and a half baths, the Hudson features a 1,100-square-foot wrap-around porch and an open floor plan that fully integrates the greenest products and practices available today. It represents the advent of the New Old Green Modular® (NOGM®) home, respectful of our country's rich architectural heritage while integrating modern amenities of the 21st century.  It exceeds the most stringent green performance standards in the building industry and is move-in ready in just a few months.

“Armstrong Cabinets is excited about our new business partnership with New World Home.   Low emission ‘green’ housing is the future and our Origins Series cabinets can contribute to LEED® certification.  The Home Green Home project was not only fun, it introduced thousands of prospective home buyers to the ultimate in environmentally responsible construction,” said Steve Nash, vice president, Sales, Marketing & Service, Armstrong Cabinets.

Committed to Sustainability

“While all Armstrong Cabinet products are a safe and sustainable choice, an Origins cabinet combined with any of Armstrong's solid wood center panel door styles offers the best available option for projects that require no added urea formaldehyde (NAUF) materials,” said Nash.  “Aesthetics, function and cost are primary concerns when designing a kitchen and our goal is to present different options so customers can make individual choices with confidence.”

Armstrong solid wood center panel door styles are compatible with the Origins Series,  including Arborcrest™, Bali™, Calibra™, Coronet™, LaCerise™, LaCerise™ Arch, Leighton™, Moderno™, Olympus™, Sedona™ and Town&Country™.

Armstrong cabinetry combines unmatched quality style and function with sustainable attributes like recycled materials, low emitting composite wood and low VOC finishes.

Using Origins Series cabinets can contribute to the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) green building certification system, for LEED NC EQ Credit 4.4, Low-Emitting Materials: Composite Wood. Additionally, an Origins Series cabinet and any Armstrong solid wood center panel door style can satisfy the emissions standards of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Phase 2 regulations that went into effect in January 2010. All Armstrong Cabinets also are certified by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) for commitment to the responsible use of natural resources through sound environmental management and sustainable practices.

Following a two-week open house at New York City's World Financial Center, which attracted nearly 10,000 visitors, the house was moved to Crystal Springs Resort near Vernon, New Jersey to become a permanent Country Living Green Modular Home design center.
