Artesyn will Virtualize Multiple Independent Software Functions for Broadcast and OTT Video Streaming at IBC

At IBC 2015, Artesyn Embedded Technologies will demonstrate its range of SharpStreamer™ video acceleration platforms for broadcast and OTT video streaming with solutions from multiple independent software vendors (ISVs), many capable of deployment as virtual network functions (VNFs). Artesyn’s SharpStreamer platform accelerates video processing for service providers and equipment providers in the broadcast, OTT, MSO, ISP, CDN and cloud service provider market. Designed to work with standard servers, Artesyn’s SharpStreamer add-in cards and 1U, 2U and 3U MaxCore™ appliance platforms can simplify and accelerate the creation of appliances to support high density hosted, virtualized or cloud-based multiscreen video infrastructure. The density and versatility of platforms accelerated with SharpStreamer technology also enables operators to decrease the cost of OTT video in their networks.

At IBC, Artesyn will demonstrate compatibility with software applications from a range of ISVs, including artec, Elecard, InterDigital, MainConcept, Nablet, Noisypeak, Vanguard Video, Vantrix, and Wowza Media Systems.

A single Artesyn 3U MaxCore™ carrier cloud platform, fully configured with Artesyn SharpStreamer™ add-in acceleration cards, is capable of supporting up to 616 streams of 1080p HD video, which equals over 200 streams per rack unit using a standard server architecture based on PCIe. Comparable appliance platforms only offer video acceleration in a proprietary architecture and their acceleration cards cannot be used outside those proprietary form factors; Artesyn’s SharpStreamer PCIe cards can be used in standard servers or the MaxCore platform.

While standard rack mount servers are ideal for smaller scale density requirements, Artesyn’s MaxCore platform is optimized for hosted cloud and high density deployments. Combined with a significant reduction in floor space and power consumption, the density and flexibility of the Artesyn MaxCore platform makes it the most cost-effective, scale-out infrastructure for video transcoding with 14 times the performance density when compared to 1U servers, up to 75 percent lower equipment cost, and over 90 percent lower power and cooling cost.

The SharpStreamer ISV Ecosystem provides members access to testing and compatibility resources with SharpStreamer solutions. SharpStreamer ISV Ecosystem members can benchmark applications and participate in ongoing innovation and development with Artesyn to achieve maximum density/RU for specific applications, so customers have the assurance of a proven solution.

IBC15 exhibits will be open from Friday to Tuesday in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Artesyn demonstrations will be in a dedicated meeting room (13.MS34), on display in the Intel booth (4.B72) and in the booths of SharpStreamer ISV Ecosystem members.
