AU-System improves Europolitan Vodafone's network monitoring Stockholm, Sweden - November 22, 2001 - AU-System has been commissioned by Europolitan Vodafone to install and integrate a system that will improve the monitoring of Europolitan Vodafone's network and services. By providing a clear picture of which customers and services are affected by any faults that arise, the solution enables Europolitan Vodafone's monitoring centre to give better priority to whatever can best guarantee the service level expected by the company's customers. "It's very important for us to have a network of the highest quality and be able to control any faults that may arise so that we can take the necessary steps and inform the customers affected as quickly as possible," says Markus Åsenryd, head of Europolitan Vodafone's Network Management. "The monitoring environment for our third-generation network will be even more complex, so this solution will prepare us for the expansion that will take place in conjunction with the growth of 3G- based services." The networks that operators use to supply services are built with equipment from several different suppliers. The equipment communicates with the operators' monitoring centres in different ways, depending on who has developed it. Europolitan Vodafone's new monitoring system will make this communication easier, thereby enabling any service that experiences a fault to be brought back into operation as quickly as possible. "AU-System has supplied many similar solutions to telecom operators, but this is the first commission of its type for a purely mobile operator," says Lars Andersson, CTO OSS Solutions at AU-System. "The commission will strengthen our position as the Nordic region's leading supplier of OSS solutions." Developments in the areas of GPRS and 3G mean that operators will be offering more services and experiencing more traffic in their networks. Furthermore both networks and services will be based on equipment from an increasing number of suppliers. Integrated monitoring will therefore become an important ingredient in the mobile operator's ability to guarantee its customers a high level of network availability as well as contributing to saving both time and money for the operator. The solution that AU-System is installing and integrating is Cisco Info Center, which is based on Netcool from Micromuse. AU-System has previously implemented similar solutions for, among others, Skanova, Bredbandsbolaget, Telia Communications, Banverket Telenät, Telia Net in Denmark, and Nextra and Telenor in Norway.
