AU-System licenses WAP browser to Siemens VDO Automotive 3GSM World Congress, Cannes, France - 19 February 2002 - AU-System, which is part of the Teleca group, has entered into a 4-year agreement with Siemens VDO Automotive AG, a leader in automotive electronics. The agreement means that AU-System will license its WAP browser and associated security software to Siemens VDO, as well as providing technical support for the browser. AU-System has so far licensed the WAP browser to about 50 manufacturers of mobile phones and electronic equipment, and is therefore one of the world's leading suppliers of WAP browsers based on open standards. Siemens VDO will offer the WAP browser to its customers in the automotive industry. The browser will be part of Siemens VDO's vehicle infotainment platform and support a range of positioning, information and navigation services created for vehicle owners. There are many potential areas of application for WAP in the vehicle industry. Examples include services that provide drivers with information about the servicing needs of their vehicles and direct links to relevant workshops, as well as services that provide information on the weather, traffic conditions and navigation. "This collaboration shows that WAP technology is beginning to mature and find an increasing number of areas of application in more-traditional sectors. The agreement with Siemens VDO Automotive is further proof of the flexibility of our browser and the fact that there is wide support for solutions based on open standards," says Christer Björk, business area manager at AU-System. AU-System recently launched the Mobile Suite, a unique portfolio of integrated software products designed for mobile devices. Built around AU-System's new multi-protocol WAP browser, the Mobile Internet Client, the suite also contains modules for managing Java applications, MMS (multimedia messaging service) messages, synchronisation and a security module for encryption and digital signatures. The AU-System Mobile Suite will be demonstrated in AU-System's booth (E70) at the annual 3GSM World Congress on 19-22 February 2002 in Cannes, France.
