Autogas remains ‘driving force’ behind BTCC star
With just days to go before this year’s British Touring Car Championship takes to the grid, Autogas Limited has announced its continued support of Tom Onslow-Cole who is driving for Team HARD in a VW Passat CC.
While Tom is famous for his driving skills on the track, it’s perhaps less well-known that away from the fast and frenetic BTCC action he enjoys driving an autogas LPG powered Rover 25.
“BTCC circuits are spread across the UK giving many race fans the opportunity to watch live wheel-to-wheel action. However, it means many miles on the road for myself travelling between race tracks and other events, so using LPG offers me substantial costs savings on my fuel bill.
“Secondly, it’s great being able to promote the greener side of motoring with an LPG powered road car,” explained Tom.
Tom’s connection with Autogas started in 2010 when he drove a unique autogas LPG powered Ford Focus in the BTCC. In that year he led more laps and miles than anyone else, enjoyed four race wins and 11 podiums before eventually finishing fourth overall – his most successful season to date.
Linda Gomersall, general manager, Autogas Limited, said: “Tom’s a consistent performer in the BTCC so we’re really proud to be able to support him with his own LPG powered car to get him to the race circuits.
“Our best wishes go to him for a successful 2013 season as he battles the other drivers in one of motorsports most compelling championships.”
Autogas Limited is a joint venture between Shell and Calor. Established in 2000 with the sole aim of making automotive LPG more readily available to fleet and private motorists, the company now has LPG refuelling installations on more than 215 petrol forecourts throughout the UK.
Autogas Limited is an active member of UKLPG, the trade association of the LPG industry, trying to bring the message of cleaner and cheaper motoring to as many people and businesses as possible.
