  • Municipal vehicle hire specialist Go Plant adds 54 DAF LF sweepers to its fleet
  • DAF LF chosen because of reliability, running costs and customer preference
  • DAF LF sweeper chassis has bespoke packaging to suit the sweeper application and bodywork

As a result of positive customer feedback and its experience of the reliability and competitive running costs of the DAF LF trucks on its fleet, one of the UK’s leading specialist municipal vehicle hire companies, Go Plant Limited, has ordered 54 DAF LF 15t and 18t Euro 6 sweepers.

Over 90 per cent of Go Plant’s sweeper fleet are already DAF LF vehicles usually working eight to 12 hours a day across the UK over a lifespan of 10 to 13 years each. They are hired for a variety of self-drive, short-term rental and operated hire contracts in the public and private sectors, such as local authorities and construction sites.

The new Euro 6 models have been fitted with both Johnston VT651 and VT801 bodies featuring a heavy-duty, stainless steel body with water tank, hydraulically operated sweeping system and time saving, quick-change mechanism for channel and wide-sweep brushes.

Commenting on the decision to buy more DAF LF sweepers, Paul Langham, Managing Director, Go Plant Limited said: “DAF has been a chosen supplier for many years as we have always been very happy with the reliability and running costs of its vehicles and its policy of continuous improvement, such as the reduction in emissions and improved fuel consumption of its latest Euro 6 models.

“The LF is exactly the right size for its purpose, and our customers prefer it too, so as we put a real emphasis on working in partnership, if they’re happy, then so are we,” he continued.

Phil Moon, Marketing Manager, DAF Trucks UK added: “We are very grateful to have provided Go Plant with specialist sweeping vehicles, and for its feedback on the good experience it and its customers have had using DAF trucks.

“The LF has also been used for many other purposes in the municipal utilities sector, such as gulley emptiers, refuse collection and recycling vehicles. In fact, its bodybuilder-friendly chassis has been engineered specifically for the sweeper application to make it easy for body installation. To make space for the brushes the exhaust after-treatment system, the AdBlue tank and the batteries are all mounted on a gantry behind the cab, whilst the fuel tank is mounted in the rear of the frame protected by the factory-fitted rear under-run protection beam,” Phil added.

Working in an urban or inner-city environment makes the Euro6 compliant emissions and low noise of the new LF’s state-of-the-art, four and six-cylinder PACCAR PX turbocharged diesel engines crucially important. And with the compact LF cab, the short wheelbase resulting from the clever chassis packaging and a 52-degree steering angle, the LF sweeper is exceptionally nimble and manoeuvrable – essential for precision sweeping.
