Father and daughter team up for marathon to help beat breast cancer
A father and daughter duo from Folkestone has teamed up to run the Virgin London Marathon in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign.
Andy Morris and his daughter Katy Towse will join thousands of runners on the starting line on Sunday 22 April to support Andy’s mother-in-law, Katy’s Nan, who has had successful breast cancer treatment.
Andy, who has just turned 60, said: “In my 60th year I am taking on a number of sporting challenges, the Virgin London Marathon being one of them. Breast Cancer Campaign is a charity close to my heart so I am delighted to be able to run for them and raise vital funds for breast cancer research.” Andy is employed by Veolia Water Southeast and thanks them for making a generous contribution to the fund raising effort.
Katy, 27, said: “Along with keeping fit in the New Year, I really wanted to support my Dad in this challenge, so it’s fantastic that we are able to run together in aid of this great charity. I ran the Virgin London Marathon last year for Breast Cancer Campaign and raised about £2,500. It was an amazing experience, so I’m so pleased to be able to share it this year with my Dad.”
Andy and Katy have started their fundraising and training programme. Katy said: “We have started our training and so far it’s going really well. We are really looking forward to race day and to the achievement of crossing the finish line after 26.2 miles. We want to raise as much money as we can for Breast Cancer Campaign and hope that everyone will support us along the way.”
