Press Release For immediate use: 12 April 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local walk to help beat breast cancer this spring Budding walker Ruth Kane from Hornchurch, Essex will lace up her walking boots in May to take part in a 14 mile walk for Breast Cancer Campaign. 50 friends and family will join Ruth on the Friendship Walk from Hornchurch to Tower Hill and Ruth would love more people in her community to put their best foot forward for breast cancer research. The semi-permanent make up specialist decided to hold the Sunday stroll for Breast Cancer Campaign on Sunday 9 May in memory of her mother Pat who sadly passed away from breast cancer in 1984 aged 49. Ruth said: “ “I’m very excited about holding this walk from Essex to London, as I’ll be doing it as a tribute to my mother and also to support the 46,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK each year. I’m thrilled that 50 people have already pledged their support to walk with me but I’d love more people to get involved and help us raise much needed funds to help the charity beat breast cancer. This disease touches every family in some way.” The walk starts at 9am at Harrow Lodge Park, Hornchurch and will end at approximately 2pm at Tower Hill. Registration costs £10 per person. All walkers are encouraged to raise sponsorship which will help Campaign fund innovative breast cancer research. Walkers can choose to walk in memory of a lost relative or friend or just turn up and help us raise funds towards beating this disease and of course pink clothing is a must. If you would like to join Ruth on the day, or if you would like more information, please call 07974 754410. Alternatively, if you cannot attend the walk but would like to arrange your own Friendship Walk for Breast Cancer Campaign please call 0207 749 3700 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org.
