Press Release For immediate release: 13 April 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Mother and daughter team up to beat breast cancer Local cyclist Lesley Jones and her daughter Jennifer from Upton, Wirral will gear up to beat breast cancer this Sunday by taking part in her second Pedal it Pink event for Breast Cancer Campaign. The duo will join hundreds of women at Liverpool’s second annual event in Sefton Park on Sunday 18 April in memory of Lesley’s mother Marie who sadly passed away from breast cancer in 1965. Lesley said: My mother died from breast cancer when I was five and my brother was 18 months. The death of a mother is something a child never gets over. To be part of helping to raise funds to prevent breast cancer and maybe put a stop to even one child losing their mother to this illness would mean the world to me. Also, my step-mother has had, and recovered from, breast cancer twice in the last 10 years.” Lesley and her daughter are taking on the marathon and aim to raise £500. If you would like to help them reach their fundraising target, please visit www.justgiving.com/lesleyjones12 and donate what you can. Pedal it Pink has a variety of cycle routes to choose from so there is something to suit all abilities. Beginners can opt for the family 5K lap (which is also open to the men and children in your life) and those wishing to push themselves that little bit further can select either a half (13.1miles) or full (26.2miles) marathon distance. All routes are completely enclosed in the park, so it’s safe, traffic-free and suitable for all existing and aspiring cyclists. If you would like to join Lesley and Jennifer, please register on the day at the event village in Sefton Park which is situated near the junction of Lark Lane and Aigburth Drive. It costs £15 for the marathon, £10 for the half marathon and £5 for the family 5k lap. Cycling is a great form of cardiovascular exercise, which helps to burn fat and if done regularly contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Cycling is also great for toning leg muscles and can burn up to 500 calories an hour.
