Icon Scientific selects SYSPRO after analysing the ERP market

Process analyser innovator Icon Scientific has selected K3 Syspro to supply a SYSPRO-based manufacturing, financial and distribution ERP system to support the company’s rapid growth.

Icon Scientific anticipates that the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system will enable the company to implement a modern process driven approach across all areas of its high-tech manufacturing business.

“We selected a K3 Syspro integrated ERP system to bring control to our multi-level, complex manufacturing. Our business is quite literally taking off with the high demand for our equipment and we need to manage our manufacturing processes efficiently and effectively to meet that output’’, says Mike Powell, Production Director at Icon.

He added: ‘‘The MRP [material requirements planning] tools in SYSPRO are the key to gaining the control we need in our core manufacturing activities and being able to use Crystal Reports for enhanced reporting is a great advantage over other systems.

“Because K3 is providing a company-wide system, we’ll also benefit from SYSPRO’s ability to manage our accounts, sales and purchasing, stock control and lot traceability. Traceability is important for us as our products are safety critical instruments and are certified to global safety standards, so we have to be able to trace components back to source.”

The Icon team – who you can find at www.iconscientific.com - shares 100 years experience in online process analyser development. The company is now two years old and has recently launched its manufacturing division, having spent 18 months in research and development of its groundbreaking technology that utilise Icon’s own unique techniques and methodologies.

Among its products is the FreezePoint Analyser. This provides an indicator of the lowest ambient temperature at which aviation jet fuel can be used. The analyser uses advanced cryo-cooling to measure freeze points down to minus 80°C. In common with other products in the Icon range, it offers many unique features and in this instance produces results compatible with aviation industry standard freeze-point test methods such as ASTM D2387, D5972, ASTM D7153 and ASTM D7153.

Icon chose SYSPRO following an extensive review of several other ERP systems.

“SYSPRO is a mature product with a good pedigree. We also like K3’s approach to helping us with a rapid and smooth deployment of the system. K3’s ability to fast track implementation was important to the vendor selection process. The software is well designed, being consistent throughout and with a good user interface. It also provides a flexible, structured approach to its use, which will help with the way operate as a company,” says Mike Powell.
