Unique African-inspired activities ensure family fun all season-long

Sandusky, OH. (June 7, 2013) – Summer has arrived in Sandusky and Kalahari Resorts, an authentically African themed waterpark and resort, is commemorating the season with the Summer Splash – a one world celebration of African music, food and art. The Summer Splash includes a series of family events and daily activities designed to entertain, educate and provide guests with a richer appreciation for the African continent.

Now through Labor Day, Kalahari guests can experience the joy and spirit of this foreign land with activities including: safari animal interactions with exotic wildlife and elephant encounters, African mask making, kite flying, a chef’s harvest featuring the enticing foods of Africa; limbo contests, dance competitions, music jams with distinct African rhythm, Kalahari character visits and more!

“The Kalahari Resorts waterpark concept was inspired by our family’s annual trips to Africa and our unique experiences with the continent’s land, culture and customs,” said Travis Nelson, spokesperson for Kalahari Resorts. “The Summer Splash is our family’s way of sharing this worlds-away experience and celebrating the spirit of Ubuntu – an African belief that we are all interconnected and part of one world. These activities will provide our guests with experiences they can only find at Kalahari Resorts.”

Summer Splash in Sandusky

New this year, Kalahari Resorts welcomes the Kenya Safari Acrobat Show to Sandusky July 16 – 20 for a thrilling, one-of-a-kind performance. This unique show brings African customs and traditions to life as performers showcase skills of dexterity, rhythm and precision choreography with authentic African music in daily performances. That week, elephants will also make a special appearance at the resort giving guests an opportunity to view these enormous, gentle giants up close.

Learn about the flavorful recipes and culinary customs unique to regions of Africa through the chef’s harvest. Enjoy story time readings of “Are We There Yet?... Tiko’s First Trip to The Kalahari,” featuring the voice to George Baldi. Daily arts and crafts activities ranging from African bracelet making, to animal safari sand art and kite flying – one of Africa’s most popular family pastimes – are designed for family fun. Check out the daily activities board to learn about what’s new each day for Kalahari Resorts Summer Splash!

Guests will also be treated to new tunes at the resort this summer with two custom tracks – “Where Smiles Run Wide” and “Welcome to Kalahari”  – created specifically for Kalahari Resorts by African musicians.
