Capio is today celebrating the official opening of its new hospital Capio Clinique Belharra in Bayonne, France, after welcoming its first patients in August 2015. The brand new hospital is built entirely on the basis of modern medicine principles and is the result of a construction project lasting more than two years.

The new Capio Clinique Belharra is an emergency hospital offering a broad range of specialties. The hospital is merging activities and utilising expertise from three former hospitals in the Bayonne region: Capio Clinique Lafourcade, Capio Clinique Paulmy and Capio St Etienne. It has a capacity of 250 beds and places, representing a 40 percent reduction compared to the three former clinics combined. Despite there being fewer beds, with a focus on Modern Medicine with Rapid Recovery and shorter average length of hospital stay, Capio France is expecting to welcome 50,000 patients each year. The hospital is designed for outpatient surgery with a capacity that is significantly higher than the average of 45 percent (2014) of total surgery in French hospitals. The new facility at Capio Belharra Clinic will thus create a larger production capacity compared to the former clinics. The hospital has 550 employees and150 self-employed doctors and associated staff.

Capio’s aim is to offer high quality care to all patients by implementing Modern Medicine, efficient pathways and kind treatment in a nice environment. This strategy, actively developed in France for several years, had a strong influence on the architectural project of Capio Clinique Belharra. The architectural project integrates Modern Medicine principles such as: increasing the proportion of outpatient surgery, decreasing the average length of stay in hospital, optimising patient pathways and the treatment environment, and providing a nice and functional working environment for staff and doctors.

Through the creation of so-called centres of excellence within each speciality (gynecology and obstetrics, ENT, stomatology, digestive, bariatric surgery and proctology, gastroenterology, vascular and thoracic surgery, pulmonology, orthopedics, urology, ophthalmology and angiology), Capio Clinique Belharra strives to be an attractive choice for more patients and doctors alike. Capio Clinique Belharra aims to become the premier private referral facility in the Southern Aquitaine region in south-west France.

As a result of a strong focus on environmental construction techniques and building management, Capio Clinique Belharra will be one of the first High Quality Environmental (HQE) clinics in France, certified by the Association pour la Haute Qualité Environnementale (ASSOHQE).
