Teamwork between Castellum and Peab – developing a new format for CSR work in Örebro

Castellum, one of the largest real estate companies on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, is taking a new approach to corporate social responsibility for the Citypassagen project in Örebro. This is being carried out with Peab, one of the Nordic region’s leading construction and civil engineering companies.

“The Teamwork project at Citypassagen is a social project where we’re creating a platform for meetings as well as inclusion and integration activities through a major construction project. Our partner in the project is the Örebro County Sports Association. Sports are an easy way to get together – a universal language”, says Anna-Lena Fredin, Project Manager at Castellum Örebro.

The idea of cooperating is to create new conditions for integration. Our aim is also to create an interest in the construction and real estate industry, where the need for skilled labour will be great in the next few years.

“There’s so much that needs to be done to improve integration. I also believe that most people want to help but don’t always know how. Hopefully, this initiative will have a ripple effect, making it attractive for others to contribute. And then we’re all winners”, says Claes Larsson, Managing Director of Castellum’s Central Region.

Project Teamwork was launched on October 2 and will be carried out during the entire Citypassagen construction period, until April 2019. Various joint meetings and gatherings will result in the creation of meeting places featuring sound role models, sports activities and internship opportunities.

Teamwork is an ideal name for the project; teamwork is needed everywhere in society – within our families, at work and not least in interactions with other cultures – for our democratic values to function as they should. That’s what this project is all about”, says Magnus Nilsson, Peab.

Castellum has prioritized sustainability issues from a social perspective since the company was first formed. Offering young people an opportunity to enter the labour market is high on the agenda. Since 2012, for example, the company has run an internship program comprising four percent of its employees. Three quarters of the trainees have been employed after completion of their internships.
