CTQ APEX Quality Awards Presented to Hospitals with Highest Reported Patient Satisfaction

Westchester, IL (Oct. 17, 2011)--Physician Hospitals of America (PHA), an advocacy and educational association focused on raising awareness of the benefits of physician ownership of hospitals, congratulates the following physician owned hospitals on winning the 2011 CTQ APEX Quality Award for excellence in patient satisfaction and delivery of care.

Diagnostic Imaging
The Medical Center at Elizabeth Place (Dayton, OH)--Repeat Winner

Inpatient Care
Surgical Institute of Reading (Wyomissing, PA)--Repeat Winner
Fairway Medical Surgical Hospital (Covington, LA)--Third consecutive year of recognition

Endoscopy
Central Louisiana Surgical Hospital (Alexandria, LA)

“Given the level of excellence that must be sustained to receive an APEX award, this speaks volumes about the performance of these physician owned hospitals – especially the repeat winners,” said PHA President Dr. Michael Russell. “We would especially like to congratulate Fairway Medical Surgical Hospital which is one of just 18 facilities to ever win the APEX award in three consecutive years.”

CTQ Solutions is the one of healthcare’s leading firms for measuring and benchmarking patient satisfaction and clinical performance, as well being a CMS-Approved HCAHPS® vendor. The APEX Quality Awards recognizes hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, endoscopy centers, diagnostic imaging centers, physician practices and rehabilitation facilities for excellence in quality of care and patient satisfaction. Results are gathered through CTQ’s trademarked CTQ EdgeSurvey, specifically designed to effectively capture patient intelligence, evaluate relevant issues and promote risk mitigation. Award evaluation emphasizes specific care attributes tied to direct patient care, ensuring proper weight is assigned to nursing care, physician interaction, anesthesia care, pain management, recovery and post-care instructions.

CTQ CEO Paul Faraclas notes, “The APEX Quality Award places a premium on direct patient care measures, and the uniqueness of the recognition is that it is determined by patient feedback and perception. CTQ recognizes healthcare entities performing in the top 10% of their respective markets. Based on overall excellence, it is not surprising that winner boasts very high performance associated with key loyalty indicators, such as whether the patient has ‘confidence in the care provided’ and would recommend the provider.”

PHA considers the physician ownership model as the preeminent means of ensuring the provision of high quality, efficient care, unequaled access, patient choice and price transparency.

“We are extraordinarily proud that four physician owned hospitals have garnered such distinction,” said Russell. “PHA believes that when physicians are directly involved in every aspect of the delivery of healthcare, the patient directly benefits, and distinctions such as these help to bolster the high-quality reputation of physician owned hospitals.”
