Celsius gets order for torpedo 2000 weapon system

Order for Torpedo 2000 weapon system Celsius' business unit Bofors Underwater Systems in Motala has received an order from Brazil for the Torpedo 2000 weapon system. The order comprises delivery of torpedoes plus basic equipment for operation and maintenance, as well as integration of the system into the submarines built in Brazil. The order is worth approximately MSEK 500. The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) ordered series production of the torpedo system in December 1997. In the Swedish Navy, the system is known as Torpedo 62. - The order from Brazil is the first export order for the system, and is therefore extremely important to continued export efforts. Several other countries have expressed keen interest in the Torpedo 2000 system, says Celsius´ CEO Lars G. Josefsson. Torpedo 2000 is a newly-developed "heavyweight" high-speed/long-distance torpedo, and can be launched from surface ships and submarines against both surface and underwater targets. It can operate at great depth, but can also be used in shallow and coastal waters. It can also be used in surveillance and anti-mine roles. The guidance system is based on a homing device and data communications via wire, between the parent vessel's fire-control system and the torpedo. The order will not require recruitment of additional personnel at Bofors Underwater Systems, as it had already been taken into account in earlier planning.
