ImaginOn turns 10 in October, kicking off a yearlong celebration with a festival

Just 10 years ago in October, Mecklenburg County became the host of an amazing collaboration between Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. The dynamic partnership created ImaginOn: The Joe and Joan Martin Center and a free family festival will honor the anniverary on October 10, 2015.

The festival will run from noon to 4 p.m. at ImaginOn (300 East Seventh Street, Charlotte NC), and will include live performances by Liz, Holly, & The Jolly Lollies, birthday crafts, robotics and gaming, costume characters, backstage tours, and more. The entire community is invited to participate in this kick-off to a yearlong celebration.

Here are some of the fun events taking place that day:

MUSICAL FUN!

Enjoy live performances in the Park Family Story Lab.

Liz, Holly, & The Jolly Lollies from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.Wear your dancing shoes ‘cause their music will get you on your feet!

DJ Paige performing between acts!

Music4Life Student Jazz Band from 2 - 3 p.m.

ACTIVITIES FOR ALL AGES!

In Spangler Library: Birthday-themed storytime at 10:30 a.m. and make-and-take crafts all day.In The Loft: Teen competitions like Lego builds and Trivia.

In Studio i: Recording Booth - “The first time I visited ImaginOn…” and 2D and Claymation animation demos.

Photo Booth in the lobby from 1 -4 p.m.

PERFORMANCES!

Children's Theatre of Charlotte presents: Elephant and Piggie's We Are in a Play!Best friends Gerald and Piggie are surprised to find themselves on a fun musical adventure in front of an audience – you! – in this adaptation of Mo Willems’s popular Elephant & Piggie books. CTC has added an additional performance on October 10! CTC plays are popular ticketed events. Be sure to purchase your tickets soon before they sell out.

Special Discount! Guests at the 10th Anniversary Celebration on October 10 are invited to attend the 3 p.m. performance of Elephant and Piggie’s We are in a Play! at a special “birthday” rate. FRIENDS COUNCIL BOOK SALE

While you're uptown, don't miss the Book Sale at 7th Street Public Market, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Join the Friends Council, a grassroots fundraising and advocacy group of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation, for a Pop-Up Book Sale at 7th Street Public Market, which is next door to ImaginOn. Proceeds from the sale support the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. Learn more.

Visiting ImaginOn

In addition to the special celebration events, the ImaginOn building is open to children and families during the following hours. Monday – Thursday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday – Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sundays: 1 - 5 p.m.(Sunday hours are during the school year from Labor Day to Memorial Day.) Also open for CTC plays.
