Charlotte Mecklenburg Library invites public to celebrate with special events planned for Thursday, October 6, 2016.

This fall, the Matthews branch of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library (230 Matthews Station St., Matthews, NC) is celebrating 15 years of service in the Matthews Town Center, and we invite you to celebrate with us! The original branch opened in 1956 at 124 W. John Street, but in the decades that followed, community growth meant a much larger library was needed. In 2001, the Matthews branch was moved to its current location. To recognize this milestone, the branch is hosting a free, public celebration on Thursday, Oct. 6.

Festivities that day include:

  • 11 a.m. - Special Birthday Family Storytime
  • 3 p.m. - Cake, coffee and tea in the lobby, while it lasts, plus a raffle.
  • 2 p.m. - Performance by the Appalachian Dulcimer Club.
  • 5 p.m. - Stick around to enjoy the First Thursday activities outside.

Throughout the day enjoy refreshments, enjoy puzzles, coloring pages and trivia. The Library will have birthday card-making crafts for children, and teens and adults are invited to sign the big birthday card in the lobby, made by teen volunteers. Special thanks to the Matthews Town Hall for their donation of refreshments and items for the raffle.

Matthews branch hours: The branch is open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 704-416-5000.
