Meryle Leonard, Outreach Manager, was awarded the 2015 William H. Roberts Public Library Distinguished Service Award by the North Carolina Public Library Association. This statewide award recognizes service excellence in public libraries, and the recipient may be a library leader or an “unsung hero.” Meryle Leonard is both. Over her 21 year career with Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Leonard has consistently and tirelessly helped staff find ways to better serve residents in need and connect them with resources that can improve and change their lives. As a result of Leonard’s leadership, resourcefulness and tenacity, the Outreach staff has forged lasting relationships and brought “The Library” to some of Mecklenburg County’s most vulnerable residents, including incarcerated youth and adults, home bound seniors, home daycare centers, the refugee community, and homeless and transitional populations. Her impact is enduring and important in the community and in the Library.
