Faster Updates For TecDoc Data Suppliers

While factors using the TecDoc CATALOG electronic parts catalogue are already used to the simplicity of the search criteria and the speed with which the system identifies the right part first time, the latest behind the scene development means that supplier data updates are now processed even more rapidly.

Although nothing has changed in the layout or function of the system from a users perspective, from June TecDoc suppliers have been able to update their product data on to the system’s database on a monthly basis, rather than having to rely on the managed release of updated data at set time periods. The result of this refinement is that suppliers are able to filter through updates more efficiently and users can see them more quickly.

Obviously the work that goes into producing a parts catalogue is the same whether it’s a paper product or an online format like the TecDoc CATALOG system, but the big advantage with an online product is the ability to update, amend and supersede the data on an on-going basis. It also means that the internal processes required to update the data is a can be carried out on a continuous, controlled and more manageable basis instead of a periodic, but very time consuming one.

As factors will testify, supplying the wrong part is a major cost to their businesses and very time consuming and this problem is one of the key benefits that TecDoc CATALOG can solve by allowing users to identify the right part, first time.

Commenting on this latest development, commercial director for TecDoc UK & Eire, Shaun Greasley said: “Although big changes to the frontend of a web portal have a big impact because they are visually so obvious, it’s often the refinements and changes that are made to the backend that really make the practical improvements that make the system easier to use or deliver an even higher degree of accuracy.

“TecDoc’s principle objective is to make the identification of each individual part as accurate and straightforward as possible and faster updates of supplier’s data is an excellent way to contribute to that overriding objective.”

Members of the trade visiting Frankfurt in September to attend Automechanika can meet the TecDoc team and see the latest developments for themselves by coming to the stand in Hall 5/6.1.
