Global bank Citi takes the scholarship Female Economist of the Year to the next level as the main host company and sponsor for the second year in a row. The scholarship is awarded to one outstanding female student at the Stockholm School of Economics.

The Female Economist of the Year was founded in 2001 by Swedish-American business woman Barbro Ehnbom, and has been awarded annually since then. The aim is to promote future female leaders and to contribute to improved conditions for women in business.

“Our first year as a sponsor has been very positive and we look forward to giving a new candidate insight into different parts of Citi and access to a fantastic platform for a future career in international finance. This year’s candidate, Mikaela Lundh, has also provided us with invaluable feedback and understanding of her experiences when starting work for an international global bank like us. The 2018 scholarship will also include a position on our Citi Women Committee and the candidate will be able to contribute with new perspectives on our Global diversity agenda,” says Eirik Winter, Nordic Head of Investment Banking and Chairman Nordics for Citi, who will also be one of the mentors for the laureate.

The Female Economist of the Year 2018 will be offered a tailor-made position at Citi that will provide an insight in a broad variety of the bank’s businesses and operations. The scholarship will be divided between Citi’s Stockholm and London offices and the successful winner of the scholarship will be provided with two mentors, one female and one male to support them during their twelve months. Citi will also be introducing a video diary where the successful  candidate will tell and document her experiences through social media and participate in other forums and events organized by Citi on leadership issues.

“Citi has provided this year’s laureate with an amazing platform for an international career in a business where there is a strong demand and need for more women,” says Lars Strannegård, President of the Stockholm School of Economics. “The fact that Citi now chooses to continue its support of the scholarship, and of women in finance in general, is a true inspiration for the industry.”

The application period is already open and the 2018 Female Economist of the Year will be appointed at a ceremony hosted by the Stockholm School of Economics early next year.
