Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. CEO James L. Weidner Wins 2013 Healthcare Leadership Award

Los Angeles — April 18, 2013: Today, the Los Angeles Business Journal named Cooperative of American Physicians (CAP) Chief Executive Officer James L. Weidner winner of 2013 Healthcare Leadership Award for Insurance Executive.

The Los Angeles Business Journal recognized Weidner for being an active supporter of philanthropic efforts throughout his life and for his tremendous health care contributions as CEO of CAP. Mr. Weidner’s efforts were held aloft as shining examples of charitable work, particularly with regard to health care.

At the awards ceremony, the announcer cited Weidner’s extensive contributions to health care, and his many achievements at the helm of the physician owned and governed Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc.—an organization driven by a mission of providing superior physicians with superior protection resulting in superior health care for patients.

Weidner was also recognized for creating a corporate culture steeped in philanthropy and a core philosophy of doing good things for doctors so that they can do good things for patients. His contributions to the Ketchum Downtown YMCA, City of Hope, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and First Nonprofit Insurance Company were also heralded.

“We have an overriding principal at CAP that ‘we do good things for docs’. It is important that we care for our caregivers in this time of change in the delivery of health care. Our focus has always been on patient safety and access to care. Receiving this award in recognition of our efforts is most appreciated,” says Weidner.

The awards ceremony took place today at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles and included 51 finalists. These included UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, Angel Flight West, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Dr. Samuel Fink and the Los Angeles County Medical Association, Michael A. Friedman, MD and City of Hope, Kaiser Permanente, and others. Of these finalists, there was one winner for the Insurance Executive Award: James L. Weidner, CEO, Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc.
