Copenhagen chosen as best cruise port yet again

Copenhagen has been named ‘Europe’s Leading Cruise Port’ for the fifth time by unanimous industry decision. The award was presented at the World Travel Awards in Portugal. Competing ports included Barcelona, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Stockholm and Saint Petersburg.

Copenhagen has received the award for ‘Europe’s Leading Cruise Port’ on four previous occasions in 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2011.

-           The fact that Copenhagen has received the award yet again, in stiff competition with major European ports, shows that CMP has achieved a unique position in the global cruise industry. I am pleased at and proud of this confirmation, says Arnt Møller Pedersen, COO Cruise and Ferries CMP.

In recent years, Copenhagen has developed into the strongest Northern European destination in the industry. Copenhagen set a new record in 2012 with 376 calls, 840,000 visiting passengers and 230,000 crew members. The success factors include the capacity of the port, the geographical location in relation to the Baltic Sea, the coast of Norway and Northern Europe, healthy collaboration between various operators in Copenhagen and well-developed logistics.

The votes for the World Travel Awards come from both professionals in the travel and tourism industry and travellers.

-           Together with our partners in the Cruise Copenhagen Network, we focus on creating the conditions for a good stay in Copenhagen. The award is also high praise for our employees, who make this possible with their commitment every day, says Arnt Møller Pedersen.

The work to develop cruise traffic in Copenhagen continues. A brand new cruise quay, 1,100 metres long and 70 metres wide, will be ready for the 2013 cruise season. The quay can accept three large cruise ships at once.
