T-line – A Breakthrough in Tunnel Lighting

i-TunneL® introduces T-line road tunnel lighting, the latest innovation in the Stela range of LED solutions from Indal WRTL.

T-line provides the quality and safety of a true linear lighting scheme, while reducing carbon emissions by up to 60% and yet still achieves a total cost of ownership equivalent to a basic point-source lighting installation. Linear LED tunnel lighting combines a flicker-free driving experience (exceptional uniformities) with outstanding visual guidance and excellent colour rendering (white light). This high quality lighting style results in a more comfortable and safer driving environment, which can lead to improved traffic flow and reduced accidents. Linear lighting also benefits from inherent redundancy, as a failed luminaire will have little effect on the overall scheme. This is in stark contrast to a point-source installation that can drop below minimum lighting levels if only one or two lamps fail. The T-line LED solution has the additional advantage of delivering instant start-up following a power failure event, thereby eliminating the potentially dangerous re-strike period experienced by high pressure sodium (HPS) luminaires. Furthermore, T-line is much less susceptible to changes in temperature compared to fluorescent lighting which can suffer significant drops in lumen output as temperatures fall. The intelligently designed T-line uses Indal’s advanced and unique REVOLED technology which offers all of the benefits that LED light sources can provide, resulting in an impressive total cost of ownership compared to traditional technologies. • Efficient DIRECTA lens technology uses less lumens to light the same area • Unique COO-LED design maintains an exceptionally low LED temperature (no cooling fins) • Class leading LED lifespan eliminates lamp replacements • Lightweight ‘plug and play’ luminaires provide easier storage, handling and installation • Linear mounting flange allows fast and secure installation with full galvanic isolation • Low-profile housing can be mounted over-lane where other technologies may be unsuitable • Fully compatible with the i-TunneL® B-Scout control and monitoring system T-line also offers considerable environmental benefits • Fully dimmable to allow precise L20 control • Significant energy savings and reduced carbon emissions • Less raw materials and manufacturing burden • No lamp recycling eliminating the disposal of mercury and lead • Less fuel, materials handling and transport Neil Morris, Technical and Operations Manager with i-TunneL, Indal WRTL’s tunnel lighting division, said: “T-line offers the best of both worlds. There has been a recent trend towards point-source tunnel lighting, largely due to concerns over energy consumption and running costs. T-line uniquely challenges this, by providing the high quality linear lighting that motorists and lighting engineers prefer, for a similar cost of ownership and with lower carbon emissions.” ENDS Words 430
