The World Celebrates Søren Kierkegaard in 2013
On May 5th 2013 the world-famous philosopher, theologian and author Søren Kierkegaard would have turned 200 years old. The Anniversary is celebrated worldwide with a broad cultural programme featuring more than 300 different exhibitions, TV programs, city walks, concerts etc. scheduled from May 5 – November 11.
On the occasion of the anniversary of Kierkegaard’s birth, people in five continents are preparing what all in all will be a broad programme of art, exhibitions, films, TV, city walks, teaching and more. The anniversary focuses on what is contemporary in Kierkegaard’s thought universe. Everybody is invited to address the content from the view they find most exciting.
The official programme commences on Søren Kierkegaard’s birthday itself, May 5th, and continues until 11th November, 2013.
The programme includes an art and literary exhibitions in Berlin and Paris, University conferences Europe and in South America, a newly written rock-cabaret about Kierkegaard in Shanghai and international authors discussing Kierkegaard on the stage of The Royal Library in Copenhagen.

Today, Søren Kierkegaard’s thoughts are applied far more widely than in academic circles. For example, there are filmmakers, football coaches, actors and corporate coaches who work with inspiration from Søren Kierkegaard. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, his works, which emphasise human passions and the unassailable integrity of the individual, have experienced a new international wave of popularity in Eastern Europe and China, among other places.
