The Room with a View at Whole Foods Kensington, London, was the setting for the highly successful launch of The Natural Beauty Yearbook 2011, the UK's only dedicated trade publication for the natural and organic beauty industry, last week.

Hosted by Melvita, France's largest organic beauty brand, on Thursday 22 October, the launch brought together an array of distinguished industry faces, including renowned beauty journalist Jo Fairley, author Janey Lee Grace, Craig Sams – Director at Soil Association Certification, and Caroline Neville, President of Cosmetic Executive Women (UK) – the UK beauty industry's leading business organisation.

Now in its fourth year, and packed full of topical features and insightful interviews, as well as an indispensable beauty buyer's guide, the unveiling of the Natural Beauty Yearbook 2011, published by Diversified Business Communications UK, received a round of industry applause from retailers, beauty journalists and manufacturers alike.  The evening also included the highly-anticipated announcement of this year's ‘Top 20 Who's Who in Natural Beauty', as voted for by retailers, manufacturers and industry consultants.

Natural Beauty Yearbook 2011 editor, Julia Brandon, commented:  “Since its inception four years ago, the Top 20 has developed into a coveted Who's Who of the standout personalities of the year in the natural beauty sector.  Voted on by the industry, it singles out individuals who have been recognised for their dedication, hard-work and success in bringing natural and organic beauty to the fore, and I offer my warmest congratulations to those who made it on to 2011's highly competitive list.”

The 2011 Top 20 was announced as follows:

1)  Moving up to take the top spot for the first time are Simon Duffy and Rhodri Ferrier, co-founders of the UK's first and largest natural skincare brand for men – Bulldog.  Earlier this year, Bulldog became the first male brand to be certified as ‘cruelty-free' by the BUAV, it also launched the UK's first Fairtrade certified male skin care products and secured distribution deals in Scandinavia, Japan and the USA.

“Rhodri and I are ecstatic to have been named number 1 in this year's prestigious Natural Beauty Yearbook's Top 20.  Since launching Bulldog in July 2007 we have aimed to pioneer natural skincare for men, and we see this award as a fantastic testament to the growing demand for high quality natural products in our sector.  We greatly respect our peers in the industry, and the fact that they have voted us for this award makes the achievement feel even more special,” says Simon Duffy.

2)  Moving up three spaces on last year to second place is SoOrganic's founder, Samantha Burlton.  Since its launch in 2005, SoOrganic has grown rapidly to be one of the leading ethical retailers in the UK today and it was the first online, multi-brand retailer to be awarded certification by the UK Soil Association.

3)  In at number three for the second year in a row is Charlotte Vohtz, founder of Green People.  Certified by the Soil Association, Organic Food Federation and Vegan Society, in the last year Green People saw the successful re-launch of its men's range Organic Homme plus the launch of a new range of certified organic mineral make-up.
