Mobile app allows consumers to support schools while shopping for the holidays

(LOS ANGELES, CA – November 21, 2011) – Friday officially launches the holiday shopping season, but consumers now have the opportunity to get more bang for every buck by making purchases from retailers that donate to education. EdRover™, the nation’s first mobile app that partners businesses with education, gives consumers two ways to direct funds to the school of their choice:

1.     By launching the edRover app on any iPhone or Windows Phone, consumers can check-in at participating retailers while they are shopping. Every check-in generates a set donation to the school chosen by the app’s user.

2.     Through edRover’s “Shop-4-Schools” program, a portion of every sale is donated to the school of the consumer’s choice. Purchases can be made via the app or through edRover’s website. More than 115 retailers are participating in Shop-4-Schools.

“By directing holiday gift-buying dollars to sponsoring businesses, consumers are able to accomplish two things: help their schools get the supplies they need and support businesses that care about education,” said edRover creator Tania Mulry. “This is an easy way to leverage money that people are already spending on holiday gifts and truly make every dollar count.”

Leading into Shop for Schools Month, Mulry has coined two more opportunities for consumers to help schools:

·      Friday, Nov. 25, is “Check-in for Schools Day” – Send some green to schools on this Black Friday by checking-in at participating retailers while taking advantage of post-Thanksgiving sales.

·      Monday, Nov. 28, is “Cyber Cash for Classrooms Day” – Access the online deals through the participating retailers on edRover’s website.

edRover is also sponsoring an online blog event with several prominent bloggers along with opportunities to win prizes and earn funds for schools. Anyone can participate in the “Holiday Hop & Shop for Schools” and chances to win an XBOX 360 Kinect Bundle or a $25 gift card from Wal-Mart, JCPenney, PetSmart, iTunes, GameStop, Sephora, The Body Shop and Barnes & Noble. “The ‘hop & shop’ helps familiarize consumers with how edRover works and brings deserved recognition to education-friendly retailers and check-in locations around the country,” said Mulry. “Plus, these prizes make perfect gifts for family or teachers!”

EdRover Inc. is a California Public Benefit Corporation that aligns businesses’ marketing goals with parents’ dedication to their children’s education and to schools’ fundraising needs. Its award-winning, location-aware mobile application and companion e-commerce portal, edRover, facilitates donations from caring businesses to local schools, and in turn drives parents, students and educators to support those businesses.
