Ericsson demonstrates Wide Area Network Synchronization and joins SyncML Ericsson demonstrated the world's first Wide Area Network remote synchronization service using WAP at CeBIT, using the open synchronization technology IrMC 1.1. Ericsson, the leader in wide area network synchronization, has also joined the SyncML initiative as a founder, further promoting open standards for WAN synchronization. Remote synchronization enables users to quickly and smoothly update and synchronize any kind of application, such as e-mail, calendar and to-do- lists, wherever they are. New meetings, address book entries and other information can be sent to and from a WAP-enabled mobile phone and rd corporate or Internet servers, using 3 generation partnership project technology (3GPP TS 27.103), WAP and the open synchronization technology IrMC 1.1 The 3GPP TS 27.103 is the first global standard for remote synchronization specialized for mobile phones. Ericsson will support the 3GPP TS 27.103 standard in mobile phones already this year as well as offer a complete network solution for operators and ISPs. The SyncML initiative has invited Ericsson to join SyncML as a founder. Ericsson recognizes the importance of a global and open world wide area network synchronization standard. The scope of the SyncML initiative is to define a synchronization standard for all kinds of mobile devices such as PDAs, portable PCs, Communicators, Pagers and Mobile Phones. Ericsson will support SyncML in its products when the specification is ready and there is a market demand.
