The Center for Digital Government Named eScholar Uniq-ID® the Best Application Serving the Public

White Plains, NY, June 24, 2014 — eScholar®, the leader in data solutions for personalized education, is pleased to announce that the eScholar Uniq-ID® solution, in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), has won a 2014 Best of Texas Award from The Center for Digital Government. TEA implemented the eScholar Uniq-ID® solution as a key component in the rollout of the Texas Student Data System (TSDS), Texas’s statewide system for data collection and reporting for schools served by the state agency. The TSDS Unique-ID application won in the Best Application Serving the Public category, the category for projects that improve the effectiveness of services delivered to the community.

The Best of Texas Awards recognize Texas public sector programs for their contribution to the advancement of information technology in Texas. Winners are selected based on a number of criteria including productivity, performance, innovation, functionality, collaboration among agencies, innovative use of technology, and economic benefits.

The eScholar Uniq-ID solution creates unique and secure identifiers for the students and staff under TEA through the TSDS. The solution delivers a comprehensive application for the TEA to collect identification data, match, de-duplicate, and assign Uniq-ID® identifiers. By using the eScholar Uniq-ID Solution, education agencies can create true unique identifiers seamlessly and accurately. The eScholar solution was nominated for the Best of Texas Awards by TEA, which rolled out this component of the project to their local education agencies in the spring of 2013.

This solution includes identifying and managing identifiers throughout students’ and staff members’ careers in Texas, even when they move to a different school or district. Staff members who are assigned to multiple schools within the same district or across agencies will still be able to maintain the same unique staff ID.

The eScholar Uniq-ID was created in 2006, and has since been implemented by eight state education agencies. Building and maintaining strong partnerships with state education agencies are key in the cost-effective implementation of innovative, high quality state-wide longitudinal data systems.

“We are honored to be recognized as a Best of Texas Award winner,” said Shawn Bay, CEO and Founder of eScholar. “In close collaboration with the Texas Education Agency, we work hard to improve educational outcomes for Texas students and certainly appreciate it when it’s noticed.”

The Best of Texas Awards were presented on June 17, 2014 at the annual Texas Digital Government Summit/Government Technology Conference Southwest event.
