Disney's African Cats' Royal Premier is tonight in London, with general release in UK cinemas on Friday 27th April 2012. Proceeds of tonights Gala event are in aid of The TuskTrust, of which HRH Prince William is the Patron. Besides raising funds to protect Africa's wildlife, it is hoped that this film will inspire many families to book a Kenyan safari this year to see the big cats first hand.

Kenya Airways and Serena Hotels were delighted to host a private screening of Disney Nature's African Cats for 80 African-travel specialists on Friday 20th April at Walt Disney Studios in Hammersmith – a week before the film is due for general release in UK cinemas. Tour operators that attended the screening, many of them with excited children in tow, included the likes of Somak Holidays, Trailfinders, Travelbag, Travel 2, TUI, Imagine Travel and Kuoni as well as smaller specialists and travel agents.   Be sure to watch African Cats when it opens for general release on Friday 27th April! Its jaw-dropping cinematography – and its captivating (sometimes nail-biting!) story of the Lion and Cheetah families living in Kenya’s famous Maasai Mara will touch and inspire you – and hopefully many others - to head to Kenya this year!

An epic true story set in Kenya's iconic Maasai Mara, African Cats captures the real-life love, humour and determination of the majestic kings of the savannah. Narrated by Sir Patrick Stewart, the documentary features Mara, an endearing lion cub who strives to grow up with her mother’s strength, spirit and wisdom; Sita, a fearless cheetah and single mother of five mischievous newborns; and Fang, a proud leader of the pride who must defend his family from a rival lion.

The Official London Premier is to be held today (Wednesday 25th April) at London’s British Film Institute and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be in attendance, joined by 100 children involved with their favourite charities at the fund-raising gala event. HRH Prince William, who is Patron of the Tusk Trust, will make a speech at this prestigious event in aid of The Tusk Trust - helping to protect Africa’s wildlife. Kenya is very close to his heart – he even proposed to Kate there!

SERENA FAMILY TIME
Any families wanting to see African Cats first-hand after seeing this movie would be well advised to stay with Serena Hotels. Not only is Serena East Africa’s Most Respected Company, renowned for its prime locations, personalised service and attention to detail – but Serena prides itself on being a family-friendly company. Our properties cater for families with facilities such as triple rooms and family suites where equipment such as baby cots, nets, nappies and bottle fills can be provided. For older children we offer high chairs, special fun (but nutritious!) menus and earlier meal times as well as activities aimed at entertaining, educating and inspiring a love and respect for Africa, its nature and its culture. Most Serena properties offer a babysitting/child supervision service to ensure that parents also get a break and can try out the fine dining options or spend some “me time” at the spa or relaxing at the pool – or out on safari. There are also lots of activities for the whole family to share together. For full details on family facilities and activities at each property visit www.serenahotels.com and click on “Family Time” on each property’s page.

At the Mara Serena Safari Lodge, children will love nature walks around the Mara eco system, watching (and possibly joining in!) Maasai Dancing, hippo pool picnics and family game drives at dusk and dawn to spot Africa’s Big 5 including the big cats! The campfire suppers will also leave memories for a lifetime…

At Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge families will love drives around the lake, mountain biking, bird walks with the naturalist, canoeing safaris or even a bicycle tour of a local cultural village – not to mention simply playing in the extensive gardens or relaxing around the swimming pool which features a smaller children's pool with waterslide. A family breakfast at Lion Rock is not to be missed!

Kids will love visiting the famous elephants at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge and the family bush BBQ - but ‘Edutainment' activities such as “bird spotting for beginners” and “Plant a Tree for Africa” or visiting a local school and traditional Maasai Manyatta will hopefully inspire a life-long appreciation for Africa’s and its many treasures. They can also learn new skills such as how to do Maasai beadwork, about Maasai warrior-hood, and learn Maasai tracking for beginners!

Serena Beach Hotel and Spa is the perfect way to end a family safari – with a few days on the beach! The hotel enjoys a fantastic position, right on the palm-fringed sandy Shanzu Beach, north of Mombasa. The family suites are fantastic (with a private corridor to one side and balcony to the other) linking the master bedroom to a twin bedroom. The hotel also offers a children's animation programme; children's menus, a pizza restaurant and ice-cream parlour, nightly entertainment (clowns, acrobats etc), supervised nature trails, a delightful butterfly centre and sea turtle programme and a wide range of activities: table tennis, tennis, volley ball, pedalos, wind-surfing, yachting, swimming pool, water aerobics, coconut harvesting and more - plus a paddling pool separate from the main pool.
